02-Nov - Congratulations to Chander Shekhar for his award of a $150,000 ARC Discovery Grant for the project "Financial tunnelling: shareholder protection and wealth changes during two decades of capital management activities in Australia". Chander's co-investigators are Christine Brown (Monash), Hue Hwa Au Yong (Monash), and Vladimir Atanasov (Mason).

13-Jul -Great news for Howard Chan and his co-researchers: Along with Steve Easton, Paul Docherty and Jim Psaros (all of the University of Newcastle) and Philip Gray (Monash University), Howard has been successful in securing the 2011 Platypus Asset Management Research Grant to undertake a study titled “Practical Implementation of Anomaly-Based Investment Strategies and the Investigation of New Anomalies in the Australian Stock Market”. Grants from Platypus Asset Management are supported for A$50,000 per annum for three years, plus A$5,000 per annum for conference attendance. Steve is a regular visitor to the Department who teaches our Winter semester classes in portfolio management. Paul will spend part of his sabbatical with us during semester 2 this year.

Project Summary: The research gives economic policymakers a better understanding of the linkages between housing and financial market fluctuations and economic stability in Australia.

Project Summary: Understanding the economics of the oil market is important for understanding the shift toward smaller, more fuel-efficient motor vehicles and less fuel-intensive farming techniques.
